DESIGNS BY DIANE
My family and I live on a 10-acre farmette in southern Lancaster
County. Four of those ten acres are landscaped – these are my test
gardens. The plants I use in my designs, I know well. I see
how they grow, what they look like in each season, and how they react in
weather extremes.
Beginning with the initial consultation, I will tailor our services
to your individual needs. I use computer-aided design (CAD) as an
effective way to help you visualize the layout of your property.
I can design a landscape plan for your entire property or just a new planting
bed around your mailbox. Specialty gardens can be included in the
design. I provide you with detailed plans and a complete plant list.
For the do-it-your-selfer, I can include a suggested time-line and helpful
do’s and don’ts.
LANDSCAPE RENOVATION
The need to renovate a landscape can happen for many reasons.
One of the most common could be a recently purchased home. You may
find that the landscape has been planted by someone whose taste don’t match
your own. If you have owned your home for several years, the need
for renovation may have crept up on you slowly, and you no longer have
a manageable landscape.

We can evaluate the trees and shrubs as to their general health and
condition, and make suggestions as to what should be trimmed moved or removed.
We can then determine what plants and structural elements to add.
The result is a landscape that will be the envy of the neighborhood!

For many people confusion exists when plants are referred to as annuals or perennials. Annuals are flowers that only last for
one growing season. They must be planted annually. A perennial is described in the dictionary as “lasting a long time; enduring”. These plants will return again and again. To further complicate things
we throw the term biennial into the mix. These are plants that typically only last two years. Often they will grow foliage the first year and flower the second year, thus ending the life cycle of the plant. |
